Faro Foundation Mongolia is proud to announce the official launch of the Digital Literacy Library in partnership with Facebook. Unveiled on April 1, 2019, this initiative is supported by the Communications and Information Technology Authority and aims to educate the public on digital safety across the country. We are actively working to involve various government agencies to ensure the nationwide success of this program.
The Digital Literacy Library offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to help students share content thoughtfully and consume information critically. The lessons cover privacy, reputation, identity, safety, and well-being. For example, modules on privacy and reputation focus on managing interactions and perspectives in the digital space.
As a non-governmental organisation dedicated to accessible digital literacy and child protection, Faro Foundation Mongolia took on the responsibility of translating and localising this curriculum. We operate as the philanthropic arm of the Faro Training Center. Training for educators has already begun in both public and private schools.
Working with Facebook on online safety and digital literacy aligns perfectly with our ultimate goal of educating society and our youth. Educating students, teachers, and parents is a challenging task, but the support from the government and our exemplary partners makes this goal achievable. We view this as the beginning of something socially and strategically important for Mongolia.
The curriculum was originally developed by experts from Harvard University and the Berkman Klein Center. It teaches young people how to evaluate online information and understand their digital responsibilities. The program features interactive elements like group discussions, quizzes, and games to boost engagement.
The initial phase of our program is rolling out across 20 schools nationwide. Participating institutions include public schools 1, 5, 11, 12, 20, 23, 28, 44, 45, 52, 93, and 115. We are also collaborating with educational complexes and private schools, including the Junior Innovators School, Erdmiin Urguu Complex, Tugs Delgerekh, Erdmiin Undraa, Shine Mongol, Ireedui Complex, Hobby School, and Orchlon School.
